On Friday, September 28, 2012, President Obama signed into law S.3245, which extends the EB-5 Investor Visa Program for three more years to September 30, 2015 : the EB-5 Regional Center Program; the E-Verify Program; the Special Immigrant Non-Minister Religious Worker Program; and the Conrad State 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program are all programs that were included in this this bill. A more detailed press release can be seen here.
EB-5 Investor Visa Program
The program, now extended through September 30, 2015, allows foreign nationals to become US legal residents through an investment in a job-creating entity in the United States. The minimum investment can be either 500,000 or 1,000,000, depending on whether the business is located in a TEA (Targeted Employment Area). Each investor must prove that his investment was directly responsible for the creation of 10 US-based permanent jobs. To date, the most active EB-5 foreign investors are from countries such as China, Iran, India, Brazil, Nigeria, Vietnam, and Venezuela.
